Transfer Policy
POLICY ON TRANSFERRING FROM THE EVENING & WEEKEND MBA (EWMBA) PROGRAM TO THE DAY MBA PROGRAM
Once you have matriculated into the Evening & Weekend MBA Program, you may not apply to any other MBA program at Haas. You may transfer to the full-time MBA program according to the rules described below, but this option is not available for the Berkeley-Columbia Executive MBA program. This policy applies to all Evening & Weekend MBA students and is the only opportunity to transfer to the full-time program. If you miss or are denied a transfer during this time, you must complete your MBA in the Evening & Weekend MBA Program.
On a space-available basis, a small number of students (historically at most 5) from the EWMBA program will be allowed to transfer to the Full-time MBA Program in the Fall. Each February, the Full-time MBA Program Office will provide the Evening and Weekend MBA Program Office with a number of additional students that the FT MBA Program can accommodate. This number will be based on the most current forecast of the number of FT MBA students continuing and returning in that Fall, and on the number of seats in elective classes expected to be available. This opportunity is only available to first-year EWMBA students who desire to transfer after completion of their core courses. Each student will be permitted to submit only one application during the course of the EWMBA program and it must be submitted during February of the first year.
Any eligible EWMBA student who is in good academic standing (i.e., has a grade point average above 3.0 and has successfully completed all core courses before transferring) and wishes to transfer will be required to submit the following documents to the Transfer Committee in the FT MBA Program office:
- Change of Major Form requesting a transfer from the EWMBA Program to the FT MBA Program.
- Two essays answering the following questions (1 page per essay):
- What is your reason(s) for requesting the transfer including any circumstances that have changed since your application to the EWMBA Program? How will this transfer facilitate your academic and career goals?
- How do you plan to contribute to the FT MBA Program? Please include examples from your involvement with the EWMBA Program.
- Up-to-date Resume detailing professional experiences, academic accomplishments and other relevant information (maximum length of 2 pages).
After reviewing all of the applications, the Transfer Committee may invite the applicants for an interview.
Admission to the FT MBA Program will be based on the criteria including:
- Quality of professional experience
- Leadership potential
- Academic ability
- Willingness to contribute to the FT Program
Those who are approved to transfer will be given two weeks to decide. This decision needs to be made by the deadline so that those on the wait-list will have sufficient time to decide. Once a student has accepted the offer to transfer, the decision will be irrevocable for the subsequent Fall semester. The offer will be rescinded if the student does not successfully complete all of his/her core courses.
The transfer students must complete 51 units in the FT program to graduate. Credits earned in the EWMBA Program will be applied toward the 51 units. Once students transfer, they must be enrolled for three subsequent semesters. In other words, transfer students spend five total semesters earning their MBA: the first two semesters in the EWMBA program, and three subsequent semesters in the FT program.
Transfer students are expected to register for a full load of courses (12 or 13 units) each semester but must register for a minimum of 8 units. If transfer students fall below the normal load of units either because they fail a course or choose to take a lower load, they will need to take an overload in subsequent semester(s).
