Lee Miles MBA 70

After postgraduate work at Thunderbird School of Global Management and an MBA from Haas, UC Berkeley, Lee Miles started at Citibank’s International Division. He left to start his own company, Makens, selling precious metals, gemstones, and supplies to independent jewelers in the Western U.S. In 1977 he sold this company to take up a ranchland development project in Colombia, where he has lived ever since.

He was soon back in the world of gems and jewelry, however, first managing and then as partner of a premier emerald jewelry company in the Colombian coast city of Cartagena. Lee currently owns and operates his own emerald and fine jewelry company, Mister Emerald LLC, and has become a trusted supplier of this rare gemstone in a business where trust is all-important.

As the President of the Cartagena Chapter of the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce Lee was involved in the negotiation and signing of the Free Trade Agreement between the U.S. and Colombia. He publishes a tourism guide to Cartagena, Destination Cartagena, and is the managing partner of a tour operations company, Cartagena Excursions.
