Osmar Santos, MBA 00, reports that the Brazil Alumni Chapter organized the Brazilian Welcome Party on July 15, 2003, "It was a great opportunity to meet old friends, to welcome the class of 2003, and to wish good luck to the seven Brazilians of the class of 2005. New admits, including those from Rio de Janeiro, came to the event, along with most of the alumni who live in São Paulo.
In addition to the alumni appearing here, Sanjay Agarwal, MBA 99, came to the event. We also received updates from Paulo Penteado, MBA 96; Antônio Carlos Ribeiro, MBA 99; Yosmar Martinez, MBA 00; Fabiano Moron, MBA 03; and Ronaldo Pinto, MBA 04.
Arthur Calipo sent to us an e-mail with good news. Arthur and Barbara Calipo, both MBA 98, recently moved to Australia and are enjoying their new life. As a result, Fábio Ishigami, MBA 99; Fábio Matsui, MBA 03; Daniel Sousa, MBA 03; Sérgio Shimazaki, MBA 03; and I are now in charge of the Brazil Chapter, trying to keep up with the excellent job the couple did for the Brazilian Alumni.
During the Party, someone told us that David Downes announced his retirement. The Brazil Alumni Chapter would like to thank him for his huge contribution for the Haas School during his tenure. In addition, we feel proud of the higher number of Brazilian students attending Berkeley’s MBA Program. I am sure that the seven Brazilian guys just admitted are going to keep Dan Sullivan pretty busy for the next two years!
