The Center for Nonprofit Leadership (Center) prepares leaders with the practical business skills to found, lead, manage, and govern nonprofit organizations for the public good. The Center provides MBA students with an opportunity to augment the core business curriculum with specialized coursework, practical application, and career opportunities in public and nonprofit management. At the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Children, Families, and Communities (CFC) Program works to ensure opportunities for all children to reach their potential. Our central goal is to achieve quality early education for all children through Preschool for California's Children. We also support two other ambitious goals: promoting access to Health Insurance for all children and implementing After-School Programs for all elementary and middle school-aged children in California. This fellowship program provides an opportunity for outstanding individuals to pursue project opportunities outside of academic institutions and offers a professional learning experience within the philanthropic sector. |

This position is designed to provide research, strategic synthesis and analysis, and recommendations for specific projects in the Foundation’s CFC Program. In the first half of the fellowship the focus of the role will be on the Preschool for California’s Children’s subprogram midcourse review, scheduled for December 2008. This work will involve interviewing key stakeholders, reviewing and synthesizing evaluation materials, analyzing potential new investment strategies, and drafting reports and memos related to the review. The Program Analyst will also assist on projects in the areas of Children’s Health Insurance and After-school Programs for Children and Youth. The results of the analyst’s work will complement the knowledge and information available to grantees and other funders. Primary job responsibilities will include: • Work with CFC staff to conduct research and analysis on topics relevant to its work • Provide written reports and/or give presentations about projects to CFC and Foundation staff, grantees, and/or funding partners • Interact with Foundation staff, grantees, funding partners, government agencies, and content experts as needed to complete assigned projects An interim report summarizing the Program Analyst’s results to date will be produced at the midpoint of the fellowship and a final report summarizing the year’s results will be submitted and a presentation of the project process, outcomes, and lessons learned will be shared with CFC staff at the close of the fellowship period. The Foundation will provide office space in Los Altos, CA. |

• Graduate level education in social science, public policy, public health, social work, education, business, economics, law, medicine, or related fields •Substantive knowledge of and experience with public policy issues affecting children and families, particularly in California • Demonstrated ability to structure analysis, perform synthesis, and provide written reports and presentations that meet project objectives and timelines • Demonstrated strong initiative, self-motivation, and ability to efficiently manage multiple simultaneous projects in diverse subprogram areas • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player • Excellent verbal and writing skills • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows software including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook. • Professional and responsive demeanor:, efficient, knowledgeable, tactful, and confidential |
