Payment for registration fees (see registrar.berkeley.edu for fee types and rates) for the fall semester is due August 15 for all students. Payment for registration fees for the spring semester is due January 15 for all students. A $150 late registration fee may be assessed if the payment is received after the due date. Be sure to allow sufficient time for delivery.

Charges incurred throughout the term will be billed periodically and are due by the date listed on the E-Billing Statement. To determine the amount due, students should view current and recent statements, as well as the current balance due on the "Quick Statement" on the CARS section of BearFacts.

All payments should indicate the student's name and UC Berkeley eight-digit Student ID Number for proper posting. Payments must be posted by the due date to avoid late payment charges.

The University strongly prefers that student account payments be made online via the secure E-Billing website. For payments drawn on foreign banks, the University recommends a wire transfer as the most efficient method of payment. Additional information for all payment methods is listed below.

Online Payments / E-Pay

UC Berkeley has contracted with Sallie Mae to process online electronic check payments through their e-check and the One Time Payment Gateway options. These tools provide a means for electronic ACH debit from your checking or savings account with direct credit to your CARS account. Please note that electronic payments made through the e-Check and One Time Payment options will be assessed a nonrefundable convenience fee of $0.50 per transaction, which will be deducted from your bank account.

  • e-Check
Students and Authorized Payers can make online payments via e-Check. To make a payment via e-Check, select " E-Bill" from the CARS menu on BearFacts. This online system will debit a U.S. checking or savings account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the secure E-Billing website. A confirmation number is given after electronic payment has been accepted. Payments made by e-Check will be credited to the student account within two business days.
  • One Time Payment
Select this option from the Resources section on BearFacts. No special passwords or accesses are required, but you must provide the Student ID number, Student Last Name and the amount you wish to pay. This process can be used by the student or a third-party.
  • Online Bill Payment through Personal Bank Account
If utilizing your bank's online bill payment service, the payment should be issued to:

    University of California, Berkeley
    Billing and Payment Services
    140 University Hall, # 1111
    Berkeley, CA 94720-1111

When referencing the account number, list only the eight-digit UC Berkeley Student ID number. Do not list any other information (such as student name, "UCB," "SID," etc.) in the account number field.
