For Entering Students
In 2011-2012, the Haas School awarded over $5 million in scholarships to both domestic and international students. Listed below are some of the most significant scholarship awards available for full-time MBA students. While some scholarships are awarded at the time of admission, others require a separate application to be completed after admission. The following are all two-year awards, one quarter of which is disbursed at the beginning of each semester.
Scholarships Awarding with Admission
In 2010-2011, the Haas School awarded over $5 million in scholarships to domestic and international students. Listed below are some of the most significant scholarship awards available for full-time MBA students.
Dean's Fellowships
The Dean's Fellowships of $100,000 ($50,000 per year) are awarded based on exceptional merit and career potential as demonstrated in the admissions application. Applicants awarded a Dean’s Fellowship will also be contacted directly by Dean Rich Lyons.
Haas Merit Scholarships
Haas Merit Scholarships of $50,000 ($25,000 per year) are awarded based on merit and career potential as demonstrated in the admission application. No separate application form or special request is needed. Applicants awarded a Haas Merit Scholarship are also notified in writing with their admission letter.
CJ White Fellowship
The CJ White Fellowship of up to $50,000 ($25,000 per year) is awarded to MBA students pursuing careers in financial services, with a preference for students with career goals in investment
The Consortium Fellowship for Graduate Study in Management
The Consortium Fellowship for Graduate Study in Management is an alliance of top business schools working in partnership with corporations to encourage diversity in business. Candidates who apply, and are accepted through The Consortium, are considered for full tuition and fee fellowships. Applicants should apply for admission using The Consortium application.
Scholarships Requiring An Application After Admission
Please note that preference is given to admits who have not already been awarded a scholarship at the time of admission. Students awarded a Consortium Fellowship or Dean's Fellowship will not be considered for additional funds.
Berkeley MBA Grant
The Berkeley MBA Grant for $20,000 to $40,000 ($10,000 to $20,000 per year) is awarded to students based primarily on significant financial need.
Maxwell Fellows Program
Established in memory of Brian L. Maxwell, the Maxwell Fellowship of $100,000 ($50,000 per year) is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and a drive to create and implement innovative projects, products, and ideas. Below are the application essay questions.
- How would you benefit from receiving this fellowship?
- If you could have had a conversation with Brian, what would you have discussed?
- What makes you an innovator, an entrepreneur?

Haas Achievement Awards
Haas Achievement Awards of $50,000 ($25,000 per year) are awarded to individuals who have achieved tremendous success in spite of significant economic, educational, health-related, or other obstacles. The Haas Scholarship Application will ask the following:
- Describe the significant obstacle or hardship you have faced in your life.
- How did this obstacle or hardship impact you?
- How did you achieve success in spite of this adversity?
Center for Responsible Business - Alumni Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who best answer the questions below. The award is for $10,000 per year for two years. Finalists will be asked to provide references and be available for an interview by phone or in person. Below are the application essay questions.
- What does corporate responsibility / sustainability mean and why is it important to you?
- Please describe how your life experiences and your background make you well-suited to become a CRB Alumni Scholar. These could be professional, community, or extracurricular activities that may or may not be reflected on your resume.
- What do you hope to achieve professionally and how will the Haas School, the Center for Responsible Business, and the CRB Alumni Scholarship help you achieve these aspirations?
Dr. Tahir Fellowship
This scholarship for $40,000 ($20,000 per year) is awarded to international students with a preference for those who completed their undergraduate education in Asia. More information is available in the scholarship application.
Mike and Carol Meyer Fellowship
The intent of the Mike and Carol Meyer Fellowship for $20,000 ($10,000 per year) is to support students with an undergraduate degree in the fields of engineering or science as well as students who intend to pursue an entrepreneurial career. The Haas Scholarship Application will ask you to describe how your background and future goals make you the best fit for this fellowship.
Haas Online Scholarship Application
An admitted student may submit a scholarship application by any of the below review dates, regardless of the round in which they were admitted. However, funding is limited and is not guaranteed in later rounds. Deadlines are subject to change. The Haas Financial Aid Office will send out an announcement if there are changes. All Haas Scholarship Applications must be completed online.
Please note the need-based Berkeley MBA Grant, in addition to the online scholarship application, requires you to submit your most recent 1040 form (signed and dated) or equivalent tax return. If you have not filed yet for 2011, submit the 2010 tax form to us. If you have filed your 2011 tax return, you must submit the 2011 tax form to us. The same methodology applies to foreign tax returns and their respective tax years.
