Overview
1. Be sure that your entire group is clear on your "pitch." Clarify dates, location and themes of event.
2. Coordinate with those in your group inviting speakers and panelists, since you will sometimes be contacting the same companies.
3. Prepare your materials with the same attention you would give to your resume and cover letter. Be sure that your sponsor benefits are clear and concise (one page.)
4. Complete the Sponsorship Form. This form can be used as a sponsorship menu. Also, various Haas offices, including Corporate Relations and Career Services can use this form to promote your events to companies.

6. Make initial contact with the companies you are soliciting by email. Sample Email

Solicitation
1. Within 1-3 business days, follow up your email with a voicemail. Consider leaving the message during non-standard business hours. Be enthusiastic.

3. Prepare the next phone call and anticipate potential obstacles ahead of time and prepare a response.
4. Follow up your email and phone call with another phone call during standard business hours.
5. Have a drafted email with all the pertinent details ready to send while you are on the phone with your prospect.
6. Be sure to solicit them on the phone as opposed to scheduling a meeting with them.
7. If they agree to sponsor, prepare in advance to provide any and all steps for them to make a payment in the most expeditious manner.

Alternatives to Sponsorship
1. If they are not willing to sponsor, describe alternative ways for the corporation to participate (speakers, panelist, judges, etc.) Be sure to note the reasons why they were not willing to sponsor for future reference.
2. Document your process. Follow up with the company the next year.
