As a child, I envisioned myself working behind the office desk and analyzing the numbers to determine how to make a business more profitable. The BCPA program will allow me to achieve that goal and secure a full-time position at one of the firms next year. A fun fact about me is my go-to comfort binge TV show is Law and Order.

Starting off college, I hadn’t had a clue exactly what I wanted to do, but I realized now I’m extremely interested in the intersection of finance and technology. Whether I enter a career in accounting or finance, I know BCPA’s classes would further solidify and help set up my preparation to enter these fields. The program would serve as a foundational basis for any accounting learning opportunities and allow me to build stronger relationships with reputable firms. Besides my career interests, some fun facts about me are that I’m a twin and we were born one New Year’s Eve!

Hello! My name is Harry Chen and I am a senior at Cal. I am a serial entrepreneur in the health-tech space, currently running a precision nutritional startup in Hong Kong. My experience in entrepreneurship has taught me the importance of accounting skills in successfully managing the growth of a company. Through the BCPA program, I hope to develop fundamental skills in accounting and financial management to equip myself with the knowledge to take my ventures onto a higher level. One fun fact –  I am a huge endurance cycling fanatic and I plan on cycling across China in 2023!

As a transfer student, I feel incredibly fortunate for the opportunity to study at UC Berkeley and the Haas School of Business. With an eye on graduation, I started exploring additional opportunities to grow academically and build on what I’ve accomplished. The BCPA program does just that. What I appreciate about the program is that it sets me up for the CPA exam while offering class times that don’t interfere with internships or post-graduation job offers. In 2022, I am currently completing my senior year at UC Berkeley. Although I have immersed myself in the study of environmental economics and environmental studies, I wanted to learn more about accounting to prepare for the CPA for a career in one of the Big 4 Accounting firms. Since UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business does not offer an accounting major, I found out that the best way to receive credentials and prepare for the CPA through my university is through the BCPA program offered during the summer where students can take classes in the evening to balance out their schedules with internships and other commitments. By next summer, I hope to complete all 30 units of accounting classes to qualify for the CPA exam and possibly apply as a full-time employee at one of the global accounting firms. This summer, I will be taking pilates and golf classes!

I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2020 with a degree in Political Economy and a concentration in Internal Trade. I am currently working full time at a non profit called The Unity Council where I have worked for about two years since I graduated. I work within the real estate accounting department as an accounts payable specialist. In addition to performing accounts payable tasks, I started learning about the accounting and financial side of property management. I have enjoyed the work that I am doing and plan to pursue a career in accounting. The BCPA program would help me build a solid foundation in starting my career as an accountant. The BCPA program would not only give me the opportunity to learn more about advanced accounting topics, it would also aid me in becoming CPA eligible. I wish to take the CPA exams in order to show current/potential employers that I am credible and trustworthy in all financial and accounting matters.
