Personal Essays

Your essay must be written by you, the applicant. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Respond to both of the Essay Questions: Each response should be between 150-250 words.
  • Formatting: Use 12-point, Times New Roman font. Include a header in the upper right corner of each page with your Last Name, First Name
  • File Format: Submit your essay as a PDF, Doc or Docx file.

1. One of the BerkeleyHaas defining principles is “Beyond Yourself.” By going Beyond Ourselves, “We shape our world by leading ethically and responsibly. As stewards of our enterprises, we take the longer view in our decisions and actions. This often means putting the collective good above our own interests.”

Describe a situation where you have gone Beyond Yourself. Why do you think it’s important to do so?

2. How would participating in the Berkeley Business Academy for Youth help you as you pursue your future education?

Application Fees

A non-refundable $100 application fee must accompany the completed application. Applications will not be reviewed if fees are not included.

Admission Requirements

The admissions team looks for applicants currently enrolled in grades 6-8, who are interested in learning more about business and entrepreneurship. The application and essay should communicate the student’s level of maturity, motivation, and drive to build!

Decision Timeline

Decisions will be released on a rolling timeline until July 31, 2026.
