After Postdoc at NYU School of Law, Leila Safavi Joins Pomona College in 2025

August 6, 2024

Energy Institute graduate student Leila Safavi completed her PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics in May, and will be taking a year-long postdoc at the Institute for Policy Integrity at NYU School of Law before joining Pomona College as an Assistant Professor in fall 2025. Leila has been a graduate student affiliate with the Energy Institute since 2019. Her research studies energy policy with a focus on the regulation of utilities, natural gas pipelines, and electricity transmission. Leila’s job market paper shows that vertical relationships between regulated utilities and natural gas pipeline owners can create incentives to over-build natural gas pipeline capacity. She finds that these incentives have led to large and relatively underutilized expansions of the natural gas pipeline system at a cost to ratepayers. We wish her well and hope she comes back to visit!
