Severin Borenstein, Energy Institute Faculty Director, discusses energy pricing policies and pushes back on the current narrative surrounding “energy hogs” on Resources Radio.

“This characterization of customers who consume a lot of electricity being energy hogs knowing that there are lots of reasons that people consume a lot of electricity that would not be considered imprudent really doesn’t make sense. A lot of people use more electricity simply because they have larger families, live in hotter climates, or have electric vehicles or rooftop solar. Labeling them as wasteful ignores these realities and turns pricing into a moral judgment rather than a reflection of true costs.”
