Battery-Powered Trains Could Reduce Emissions, Though Diesel is Well-Entrenched – July 2021
The Seattle Times reports on Faculty Director of the Energy Institute, Severin Borenstein, discussing the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by replacing diesel trains.
“Severin Borenstein, an energy expert and professor at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, said railroads are not likely to get a free pass on climate change issues…’The fact that railroads are already the most efficient transportation source is great, but we all need to reduce greenhouse gases,’ he said. ‘Railroads are a major source of greenhouse gases.’”
