BREAA NYC: SoHo/NoHo Walking Tour with NYC Department of City Planning’s Sylvia Xiaomeng Li
Duarte Square (starting point of tour), Duarte Square (Canal St & Varick St) – (meet by A/C/E or 1 Canal Street Station) |
May 19, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for a walking tour of the SoHo and NoHo neighborhoods led by Sylvia Xiaomeng Li, senior planner at the NYC Department of City Planning.
SoHo/NoHo Neighborhood Plan, adopted in December 2021, was one of de Blasio administration’s major initiatives and the first overhaul of the area’s outdated manufacturing zoning in half a century.
The equity-focused plan advances the city’s affordable and fair housing goals, supports economic recovery and long-term resiliency, and affirms the idea that all neighborhoods, including historic districts, can and should play a part in solving planning challenges we, as New Yorkers, share.
The Tour will start at Duarte Square (by A/C/E or 1 Canal Street Station), meander through SoHo and NoHo neighborhoods along various corridors and side streets, and end with a happy hour (location TBD).
Topics the tour will cover:
– History of SoHo and NoHo neighborhoods & historic preservation
– Planning challenges
– Neighborhood plan process and community engagement
– Planning strategies and adopted plan
– Q&A along the way
Meeting point: Duarte Square (by A/C/E or 1 Canal Street Station)
Tickets: $10 for members and $25 for non-members
