Humanity has always had to live with fire, and the relationship between fire and mankind has always been complex. Climate change is changing this relationship anew. The January fires that devastated swathes of Los Angeles were only the latest disaster with wide-ranging consequences, not just to the people who lost their homes, but insurance markets, housing policy, and everyone who consumes fresh air and potable water. Over the past five years, mega-fires have devastated not just California, but the Pacific Northwest, Canada, Australia, and Europe.

In this session, we’ll survey how humanity is addressing the growth of wildfires, by building resilient communities, transforming forestry and landscaping practices, and in investing in new technologies to prevent and detect fires before they explode out of control.
