Somos Haas Alumni: The US Latino GDP: Growing Strong Today, Ensuring Growth Tomorrow
Virtual | Somos Haas |
June 17 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
We are honored to have Dr. David Hayes-Bautista join us for this live online event and discussion on Thursday, June 12th, featuring newly released and groundbreaking work highlighting our tremendous Latino GDP growth and factors driving it.
Shaking off the effects of the Great Recession and the Global Pandemic, the US Latino GDP has grown more than 40% faster than the total US GDP since 2010. Currently at $3.7 trillion, the US Latino GDP is the 5th largest in the world, larger than the economies of India, the UK or France. With at least 20 more years of Latino labor force growth already built in, investment in its educational attainment, particularly in the STEM areas for the knowledge industry, will ensure that the US maintains its economic preeminence for the remainder of the 21st century.
Dr. David Hayes-Bautista is a former UC Berkeley Professor and is currently Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health & Culture at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. His research focuses on the impact of racial narratives on research design and methods, and is a foremost expert on Latino Culture and Health, having published many books on the subject.
