March 28 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Join the University of California in welcoming one of UC Davis’ premier design and materials collections, the Jo Ann Stabb Design Collection, to the Fashion Textiles Museum for a behind the scenes look at the collection with curator, textiles expert, and alum Mary Schoeser ’72 and Adele Zhang ‘99, alum and manager of the Design Collection during its launch weekend.
More than one hundred symbolic artifacts from the Design Collection will be featured in the exhibition “Textiles: The Art of Mankind” at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London, celebrating the deep entanglement between textiles, people, and our world. Through the juxtaposing of stunning garments, dress and textiles originating from around the world, the exhibition aims to connect with everyone, proving the existence of a universal, shared narrative. Exhibition pieces express global identities as well as our cultural regard for animals. There are depictions of complex ideas, illustrations of the origins of computing in weaving, and the antiquity of the principle of ‘waste not want not’.
Our behind-the-scenes reception will include light refreshments, an overview of the collection from Mary and Adele, and an opportunity to tour the exhibition with these knowledgeable subject matter experts. This event is an exceptional opportunity to learn more about the textiles industry’s past, present and future.
Your ticket includes exclusive access to the collection and refreshments.
