*Helpful tips: Top Things To Know About Add/Drop

  4. Dropping a Class
  5. Course Materials during Add/Drop
  1. Add/Drop Process
    • Registration for Fall and Spring consists of 4 rounds – 3 Rounds of Add/Drop + Drop Only:
      • Round 1 occurs a week before the start of electives.
      • Rounds 2 and 3 occur during the first two weeks of elective classes.
      • Round 3 is the final round to add to a course waitlist for the semester.
      • Round 4 is the final opportunity to drop a course. Waitlists established in Rounds 1, 2, and 3 will also be processed.
      • No further transactions will be processed after Round 4 per our Add/Drop Policy.
    • Start and end dates for Add/Drop Rounds are posted on the Registration Timeline for each semester.
    • Students receive 3 “waitlist points” per round. This means signing up for a maximum of 3 course waitlists in Rounds 1 through 3 of Add/Drop.
    • After Rounds 1 through 3 of Add/Drop, the EWMBA Program Office will prompt OLR to process waitlists. OLR uses the following algorithm to create waitlists:
      • Students will be prioritized on each course waitlist by seniority in the program, then randomized within seniority.
      • Students will be enrolled in the course until capacity is met.
      • Students not enrolled in Round 1 of Add/Drop will retain their waitlist spot for follow on Rounds of Add/Drop. Students already on the waitlist will have priority over students signing up on the same waitlist during Rounds 2 and 3 of Add/Drop.
      • After the EWMBA Program Office processes each Add/Drop Round, log into OLR (Haas On Line Registrar) to view registration results.
    • Drop Only Round 4 details:
      • Students cannot add themselves to a waitlist during Drop Only Round 4. While OLR will seem to allow such an operation, the Program Office won’t “process” this Round and those waitlist requests will not be fulfilled.
      • However, as other students drop themselves from classes and waitlists in the Drop Only Round, OLR will automatically, and without email notice, enroll students from the existing waitlists.
      • This means, if a student is on a waitlist for a course they are no longer interested in, they must drop themselves from the waitlist or be at risk of getting automatically enrolled in the course.
  2. Things to Remember
    • The waitlist function will not be available until add/drop begins according to the Registration Timeline.
    • All drops are immediate in the OLR system.
    • A minimum of 6 units per semester is required to receive Financial Aid.
    • A minimum of 1 unit per semester is required to be considered an active student.
    • The maximum course load per semester is 9 units, unless exceptional approval is granted by the Program Office.
  3. Adding a Class
    • Evening & Weekend Electives
      • Students may add a class during Add/Drop via OLR during Round 1, 2, and 3 only. All eligible classes, regardless of space availability or unit value, will have a waitlist on OLR.
        • Log in to OLR with your CalNet ID and password. Click on the Current process for the semester.
        • On the “Course Selections” tab, click on “Show All Available Courses.” All EWMBA courses will appear on the screen with relevant information, including class capacity, number of seats filled, and number of students who have signed up on the waitlist. (A student will not see who is on the waitlist, only how many people are on the list.)
        • If a student wishes to add to a particular course, click on “Add to waitlist” to the left of that course listing.
        • If the course being requested conflicts with another course the student has requested or is already enrolled in, a warning will pop up letting the student know about the conflict. In this case, the student will need to click “proceed” which confirms that they know about the conflict but would like to proceed with the waitlist anyway. It will be up to the student to reconcile the schedule conflict by the end of Drop Only.
        • A student may continue to add themselves to more waitlists by following the above steps until they’ve reached the 3 waitlist maximum per round
        • A student may view or change current waitlist requests in a given round by going to “Current waitlist requests” from the drop-down menu at the top of the page, then clicking “View courses”. A student will then see a list of the courses for which a waitlist request was submitted. If a student wishes to drop a waitlist request made previously during a given round, click on “Drop WL now” to the left of that particular course listing.
        • Requests are processed at the end of the round and not on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the round.
    • Full-Time MBA Courses
    • Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM) Global Network Weeks (GNW) and Small Network Online Courses (SNOC)
      • These courses have separate sign-up processes outside of Bidding or Add/Drop. More information about each program can be found on their respective course pages listed on the Other Academic Opportunities.
    • Non-Haas Courses
      • Information about Non-Haas courses is available here.
  4. Dropping a Class
    • Students can DROP classes directly through OLR at any point during the registration process (Round 1, 2, 3 or 4).
      • Drops are immediate in the OLR system. Only drop a course when you are certain you will not be taking the course.
      • If you change your mind and add yourself back to the waitlist, you will be put behind other students already on the waitlist.
  5. Course materials during Add/Drop period
    • For bCourses access, notify the instructor and/or GSI to gain temporary access to the course. Information on this process can be found here.
    • All students will be able to gain access to up to 8 courses in Study.net (including enrolled and waitlisted courses) for the entire Add/Drop period. Instructions about accessing Study.Net can be found here.
