Awareness & Skills for Inclusive Leadership

This interactive workshop will give participants the opportunity to increase their awareness of social identities and privilege. Participants will delve into the concept of unconscious bias, and practice tools to address microaggressions.

Prior to the session, please review these modules on Implicit Bias, Social Identities and Microaggression.

Case Study Method Workshop

This will be your first taste of what to expect in the classroom! Haas Professors’ Dan Simpson and Wasim Azhar will lead you through a real business case and expose you to the case study method that is used in many MBA courses.

Prior to the start of the session, you will receive an invitation in your @berkeley.edu inbox to a bCourses site that will contain the case study and prep questions. Please come prepared to discuss.

This is an opportunity to learn something new from a Haaster Coaches and get to know your 2023 friends. We have 6 classes from which you can choose from on a first come first serve basis. All you have to do is register (NOW CLOSED) and fill out this form (NOW CLOSED) to select your top 3 choices and we will try to accommodate your request. 

Leadership Communications

Today’s organizations demand managers who communicate well. Managers who communicate well are far more effective leaders in their organizations and in their communities.  Successful leadership and effective speaking both demand authentic communication. Managers need not only to communicate well, but also to communicate persuasively. They must be able to inspire others, create cooperation among those who work with them, advocate ideas within their organizations, and deliver the organizational message to those outside of the organization.

Students will explore the vital link between leadership and communication.  They will increase self-confidence when speaking, learn how to think fast and clear under pressure, use voice and body effectively, and learn to be deep and brief with their content.

Students will also learn to:

1. To enhance professional and leadership skills through authentic communication.

2. To develop leadership presence — the skill set that enables an individual to motivate, inspire and connect to his or her audience.

3. To improve individual presentation style and storytelling ability, including the use of voice, body, focus, spontaneity, and energy.

Class of 2023 Holiday Happy Hour

Want to breathe some festivity into yet another virtual happy hour? Join your classmates for a holiday themed happy hour, where you get to jump around the calendar year, from Diwali to Christmas, and share your favorite holiday memories.

Cultivating a Respectful Graduate Community - Sexual Violence Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

This is a mandatory live training that is required for all UC Berkeley Students to attend. Failure to complete this training will prevent you from registering for Spring classes.

Teams@Haas

Required

In today’s workshop lead by Dr. Brandi Pearce, you and your study team will be introduced to Teams@Haas a co-curricular program designed to support you and you study team in making the most of your experience working together during your core courses.

We will launch your teams by introducing you to the first of several Teams@Haas tools, the Collaborative Plan. The Teams@Haas Collaborative Plan will support your team in a conversation to aid you in better understanding who is on your team, the development goals of your teammates, your joint performance objectives, how the team will best coordinate its work, and how and what type of team climate you want to develop to support you in meeting your collective aims?

Today, we will spend most of our time providing you with an opportunity to begin this conversation so that you can develop a better understanding of who is on your team and what is important them as you launch your work together. As we bring the workshop to a close, we will discuss some best practices and consider a strategy for how to finalize the Collaborative Plan once classes have begun and you have more information on what you will be working on collaboratively for this initial term.

Following the formal session, stay in the same session to continue to get to know your study team while enjoying lunch!
