The Berkeley Fintech & Financial Inclusion Initiative (FFII) is a multi-sector, multi-disciplinary effort to unlock the vast potential of financial technology to dramatically expand financial services for unbanked and vulnerable populations around the world. Leveraging a diverse network of researchers and practitioners, FFII aims to improve the design, reach and efficacy of digital financial services, and accelerate the financial inclusion of underserved communities in advanced and emerging markets.

The Berkeley Fintech & Financial Inclusion Initiative is led by UC Berkeley’s Institute for Business and Social Impact (IBSI) at the Haas School of Business, the Center for Effective Global Action (CEGA), and the Blum Center for Developing Economies, which together bring deep expertise in advancing economic development by linking academic researchers with industry partners and policymakers to tackle complex barriers to financial inclusion.
