Approximately one-third of MFE students rely some form of financial assistance, mainly in the form of federal and private loans. The Haas Financial Aid Office at the University of California, Berkeley exists to help students efficiently secure the best federal, institutional, and outside funding to achieve their degrees. If you are planning to finance any part of the Berkeley MFE Program, please review the MFE webpages to determine your financial aid options. If you are entirely self-sponsored, you may be able to borrow the entire cost of the education through financial aid.
Due to the nontraditional academic calendar of the MFE Program, which crosses over two academic years, most students will need to go through the financial aid process twice (once for the Spring & Summer terms, and once for the Fall & Winter terms).
A note about Satisfactory Academic Progress
To maintain eligibility for federal and institutional aid, you must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). All graduate students are expected to maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 for continued participation in the program and graduation. If your GPA falls below the minimum, you will be placed on academic probation and may become ineligible for future disbursements of any federal loan. Further, students must successfully complete at least 6 units each term that they are enrolled.
