Thank You for Lighting the Way

Light the Way: The Campaign for Berkeley was one of the largest fundraising campaigns ever taken up by any university in the nation. As part of the campaign, the Haas School of Business set an ambitious goal—to raise $400 million—by the end of 2023. Thanks to our generous Berkeley Haas community, we surpassed our goal and raised $415,822,070.

Over $40 million of our campaign total was given to the Haas Fund, which provided funding for our most pressing needs at hand, year after year.

Whether you have supported the Haas Fund, or one of our campaign priorities, we are so grateful for your investment in our school. Find your name on the Haas campaign honor roll, and learn more about what we’ve been able to achieve through your generosity below:

Campaign Priorities and Highlights

Transforming our campus with a new building devoted entirely to students.

Opened Chou Hall in 2018, a state-of-the-art facility with classrooms and study spaces featuring cutting-edge technology to power both in-person and digital collaboration and learning. Recognized as the nation’s greenest academic building, Chou Hall tripled available space at Haas to accommodate growth in student enrollment.

Growing our faculty—our school's greatest strength.

Substantially expanded our teaching and resource strength by closing in on our goal of 100 ladder faculty members for the first time in the school’s history. Together, our new and continuing faculty lead their fields in generating cutting-edge research and bringing those insights right into the Haas classroom.

Providing increased access to education through scholarships and fellowships.

Endowed over 50 new scholarship and fellowship funds over the past decade, removing financial barriers and opening opportunities for more students from a variety of backgrounds to pursue their dreams at Berkeley Haas.

Making Berkeley Haas a leading destination for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Broke ground on the Haas Entrepreneurship Hub, a building designed to serve as the entrepreneurship gateway for all of UC Berkeley (opening fall 2024).

Launched seed-fund grants to student entrepreneurs and strengthened our thought leadership with a new faculty Entrepreneurship and Innovation Group.

Joined forces with the College of Engineering to launch a concurrent MBA/MEng degree program in 2020 to equip innovative leaders with the skills to take on complex and technical challenges.

Equipping students, faculty, staff, and alumni to lead in a diverse world.

Appointed one of the first chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officers at a leading business school and added four new positions to focus on admissions, student experience, faculty support, staff community and capacity-building.

Diversified our Haas Board, senior leadership team, and faculty, and implemented new initiatives to increase representation of historically excluded identity groups in our student body.

Added a new core course, Business Communications in Diverse Work Environments to equip students with the skills and knowledge to effectively lead diverse teams globally.

Building degree programs that are rooted in sustainable business practices.

Announced a concurrent MBA/Master of Climate Solutions (MCS) degree program with the Rausser College of Natural Resources to prepare the next generation of sustainability and climate leaders.

Created an undergraduate Summer Minor in Sustainable Business and the Michaels Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Business, both to ensure that future leaders bring a sustainability lens to every decision within their organizations.

Retooled all core MBA courses with cases and assignments that empower students to address climate change and other sustainability challenges through business.

Enhancing our undergraduate experience by expanding to a four-year degree program and launching new global and dual degree programs.

Transformed our two-year undergraduate business program into the four-year Spieker Program, in addition to launching the Global Management Program; Management, Entrepreneurship, & Technology Program (M.E.T.) program with the College of Engineering; and the Robinson Life Science, Business, and Entrepreneurship (LSBE) program with the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology.

Championing new teaching modalities.

Became the first top 10 business school to offer a flexible MBA, with the launch of the new Flex cohort for the Evening & Weekend Program in 2022. Participating students take live, virtual core courses from Haas professors teaching in new state-of-the-art video classrooms, engage in on-campus signature events, and have the option to take their electives virtually or on campus.

Establishing new research centers.

Formed the Center for Healthcare Marketplace Innovation and the O’Donnell Center for Behavioral Economics.
