Before you arrive

Getting Started: Days 1-3
- Complete new hire paperwork; receive benefits information; establish an Employee ID Number- this process is facilitated by Campus Shared Services.
- Meet with our HaasHR team to learn about the onboarding process at Haas. You can find useful reference links from your Welcome to Haas Orientation.
Wait 2 business days for your CalNet ID and Employee ID Number to be activated in the system.
- Berkeley Regional Services will email you your Employee ID number and information on how to set-up your CalNetID and password. Here is information about CalNet
- Once you CalNet ID is activated, visit the Cal 1 Card Office to obtain your Cal 1 Card. You will need to bring along valid form of picture ID (Driver’s License or California ID card, etc.).
- Set up your email and calendar on Bconnected, our online collaboration workspace. Technology Solutions (Haas IT) will help you set up your email, calendar, and will provide you access to shared drives.
- Set up your Cal Voicemail.
- Purchase Parking Permit, Bus and BART Tickets from the Parking and Transportation Office.
- Visit the Facilities Department to activate your ID Card to use it as Card Key for the Haas building.
- Log in to Blu, your one-stop employee resource. You can view links for updating your personal information, direct deposit, emergency contact information, and more.
- Access “employee actions” and “income and taxes” in UC Path where you’ll find complete payroll information, such as earning statements, tax withholdings, benefits information, and more.
Review Safety and Emergency Procedures
- Take some time to review the Haas Safety and Emergency Information website that contains information about protocols, procedures and safety resources.
- WarnMe System: WarnMe is UC Berkeley’s alerting and warning service for students, staff, and faculty. It is activated to contact you when there is an immediate threat to safety or health affecting the campus community. WarnMe can alert you by text message or email – you choose the best ways to reach you. By default, WarnMe will send a message to your Official Email address in the CalNet directory (typically your berkeley.edu address). To receive WarnMe emergency warnings via any other method, such as text or an alternate email address, go to WarnMe website and indicate your preferences.
Complete Required Training
- Make time to complete the mandatory training sessions: Ethics Briefing, Sexual Harassment & Discrimination Prevention, Cyber Security Awareness, and Abusive Conduct in the Workplace. You will receive an email from the UC Learning Center about each of these courses. These are assigned automatically.
- Be sure to ask your supervisor about additional training you are required to take as part of your role.
Update your Information on CalNet Directory
- Enter or update your CalNet Directory information.
Access Your Time card
- To access your time card, click the blue Access Button on the CalTime website
- Review training materials, videos, and step-by-step guides based on your role: CalTime Training
- Submit your time card on due dates based on your role. Also, view vacation and sick leave accruals.

Review Computer and Telephone Policy
- Many services are arranged for you by your unit, so check in with your supervisor about technology services. Please read the UC Berkeley Computer Use Policy and Telephone Policy to which you must adhere.
Review and Discuss with your Supervisor:
- Your unit’s goals and mission
- Performance goals and expectations
- Probationary period (if applicable)
- Your job description and work schedule
- Training needed and key people to meet
