Berkeley Haas is one of 34 prestigious universities around the world partnering with Ripple on a multimillion dollar University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI).   The Berkeley Haas Blockchain Initiative advances academic research and student engagement, technical development and innovation in blockchain, cryptocurrency and digital payments.

Housed within the Institute for Business and Social Impact in collaboration with the #1-ranked Master of Financial Engineering Program, the Berkeley Haas Blockchain Initiative links to the wide array of expertise and initiatives underway across campus. These initiatives include strategic collaborations with other UC Berkeley schools and departments including Engineering, Information and Berkeley Law, with centers including the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology and the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing, and student-led initiatives such as the Haas FinTech Club and Blockchain @ Berkeley.  

The Berkeley Haas Blockchain Initiative provides financial support for academic research, graduate and undergraduate research projects, student experiential learning, and events and student activities such as competitions, conferences, and guest speakers.  Research topics and areas of focus include: Blockchain and distributed systems, cryptocurrency and digital payments, cryptography, and related subject areas such as blockchain for economic development and global financial inclusion.
