Challenge Description
Challenge: Enhancing Circularity and Sustainability in Tires
Objective
One of Michelin’s Planet ambitions is to increase the proportion of renewable or recycled materials in tires to 100% by 2050, aligning with the company’s sustainability roadmap. The current rate stands at 28%, with a focus on extending the lifecycle of materials. The project aims to develop circular business models and value propositions that enhance the company’s ability to conduct business in the most sustainable way, specifically targeting the Truck Tires Business Line.
Potential Subjects and Use Cases
- Split the project focus into two key areas: tire end-of-life solutions and circular product suitability.
- Study the impact of recycled tires on emissions reduction and the commercial viability of circular tire products.
Key Aspects to Address
- Commercial: Understand market demand, customer needs, and create a viable business model for circular tire products.
- Suitability: Align tire recycling initiatives with sustainability goals to reduce emissions and promote a circular economy.
- Vision: Provide a clear vision of the viability of these value propositions. In essence, build an initial version of the best business models around the selected value propositions. The description of the proposed business model should be as precise as possible so that a proof-of-value can be built upon it.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor legislation trends to highlight current roadblocks to tire circularity and predict when recycled tires will become a standard or mandatory offering.
Deliverables
- A Business Model Canvas for each developed concept and any additional format associated with the Open Innovation approach deployed by the Open Innovation Squad.
- A public, non-confidential presentation that describes the Open Innovation theory, tools, and frameworks used during the project.
