
Dr. Pavel Dutta

Pavel Dutta holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from South Dakota State University, an MBA in Technology Strategy and Innovation, Operations, and Supply Chain Management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, and a Master’s degree in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics (Honors) from St. Xavier’s College.

Pavel is part of the Corporate R&D Open Innovation team of Samsung Electronics at San Jose, CA where he leads efforts on external collaboration, technology and business strategy, R&D management and technology pathfinding activities. He manages Samsung’s flagship university funding program and enables collaboration with startups and academic partners to promote early-stage research and innovation within Samsung corporate R&D.
He is interested in improving the process of open innovation, R&D process management, corporate organizational structure, and industry-academia-government partnership. He is also interested in finding effective ways of collaboration between Industry and philanthropic foundations. He is passionate about workforce development and student mentorship.
Before joining Samsung’s Open Innovation team, Pavel spent several years in leadership engineering roles in the semiconductor industry and developed innovative products for the consumer electronics space. Prior to his transition to industry, Pavel was a faculty of the University of Houston and had significant experience in academia. He has a PhD in Electrical Engineering and an MBA. He is interested in working at the intersection of academia/industry and technology/business.
