Kyle J. Basler-Reeder founded and now manages ExxonMobil’s Global Open Innovation program.
Two years after joining ExxonMobil, Kyle directly influenced a 5-billion-dollar decision through creation of a novel subsurface uncertainty reduction technology and was nominated for the ExxonMobil Innovation, Creativity, and Excellence award. He later enabled a 3-billion-dollar cost reduction, receiving an ExxonMobil Leadership Principles Commendation for Creativity.
Starting in 2019, Kyle participated in ExxonMobil’s Global Innovation Accelerator; Kyle’s work “set the gold standard for innovation at ExxonMobil”, so in 2020, he began to lead the program. In 2022, Kyle was tasked with establishing a formal External Leveraging capability at ExxonMobil. Kyle leveraged an Open Talent strategy to create the program, interviewing hundreds of individuals in and outside the corporation.
Kyle implemented an extensive engagement campaign, connecting with over 200 teams internally to grow awareness and adoption of Open Innovation across the Exxon Mobil Corporation, while simultaneously finding ways to accelerate internal processes to deliver value faster.
Due to global external recognition of the rapid growth and success of his program, Kyle has become a sought-after keynote speaker and podcast participant. His work is also featured in the book Venture Clienting, which has a foreword written by Henry Chesbrough.
