The UC Berkeley Haas Sustainable Research Prize Has Been Awarded!
The Center for Responsible Business is proud to announce the UC Berkeley Haas Sustainable Research Prize has been awarded to researchers who studied the world’s first particulate emissions market.
Out of 100 paper submissions from authors representing universities around the world, this winning paper stood out to our faculty and student practitioner review committees for its academic rigor and practical application. Missy Martin (MBA ‘26), CRB fellow and student advisory board member, was eager to join the 12-member student practitioner review committee.
“From a practitioner perspective, this research stood out because it speaks directly to the real constraints decision-makers face. It shows that sustainability solutions can be both ambitious and practical, delivering cleaner air while reducing costs,” Missy said.
The student review committee was well represented by Haas MBA’s, but also included students from the Goldman School of Public Policy as well as Rausser College of Natural Resources such as Margo Wilwerding (MBA/MCS ‘26). The practitioner committee’s diverse academic backgrounds allowed students to review papers from a multidisciplinary perspective.
“As a dual degree student in the Master of Climate Solutions and MBA, I’m exploring the levers available to address the urgent climate crisis across business, government, academia, and NGOs. I’ve noticed a game of hot potato typically occurs where each party hopes the other party will take action. It is increasingly clear that we need collaboration across all stakeholders. The sustainable research prize is a valuable showing of the incredible research happening at the intersection of these parties. This particular paper stood out as a highly replicable, impactful step toward reducing the harms of climate change regardless of a country’s size or income,” Margo shared.
