Welcome CRB’s 2024-25 New Student Advisory Board Members
Every Fall, the Center for Responsible Business’s Student Advisory Board recruits new members from across the campus. This year the board has recruited 15 new members to help create a space for the UC Berkeley community and thought leadership centered around redefining business for a sustainable and equitable future. Read more about the board’s newest members below:
Clemency Brookfield
Prior to pursuing her MBA at Haas, Clemency has worked for a number of impact interventions- non profits, an impact investor, a social enterprise, as well as co-founding a food security community initiative- with the common thread of reimagining traditional tools of capitalism to tackle poverty and promote dignity. Clemency is excited to join the CRB to continue exploring systems-based interventions that contribute to a more just and equitable society.
Sophia Busam
Sophia is a first year, full-time MBA student interested in the intersection of business and community-driven change, sustainability, and innovation. Prior to Haas, she worked as a consultant at EY, interned on a farm in Italy, and most recently am working with a start-up focused on upcycled food and combating food waste. She is excited to join the CRB to facilitate more opportunities and environments for students to engage with sustainability topics on campus with like-minded peers. In her free time, you can find Sophia listening to records, baking bread, practicing yoga, and exploring coffee shops.
Nikita Damle
During her time spent in Impact Consulting, Nikita observed a critical gap in many sustainability conversations: the absence of a strong gender lens. She sees the CRB Student Advisory Board as an ideal platform to bring this crucial perspective to the forefront of sustainability discussions at Haas. Nikita wants to advocate for integrating gender considerations into all aspects of responsible business, from supply chain management to product design and corporate governance.
Maho Hayashi
As a Master of Development Practice (MDP) student and former business consultant with a strong focus on SDGs and business and human rights, Maho is thrilled to join the CRB Student Advisory Board. Her background spans sustainability-centered roles, including consulting and leading SDG initiatives. She is particularly excited about the CRB’s role in bridging public policy and business innovation, aligning with Maho’s passion for ethical supply chains and corporate responsibility. Joining the board is an invaluable opportunity for her to deepen this mission and contribute meaningfully to responsible business practices.
Caitlin Kennedy
Caitlin is interested in the intersection of human rights and business and how we can ensure people across value chains are benefiting from business rather than being harmed. In particular, she became interested in food and agriculture supply chains after spending two years working with cashew farmers in Ghana with the Peace Corps. Before Haas, she worked at the United Nations Global Compact where she created learning resources for companies on how to integrate climate action, human rights, and good governance into their business operations. I’m excited to join CRB to learn about new and emerging ways people are addressing these issues in business, and to hopefully help integrate the sustainability perspective further into the MBA curriculum.
Ricardo Kumelys
Ricardo is excited to join the CRB Student Advisory Board because he believes in the power of businesses to drive the changes needed for a more sustainable future, and the urgent need for change. He sees this opportunity as a chance to deepen his understanding of sustainable business practices through collaboration with other students and industry leaders in different sectors, especially as they relate to climate change and human rights. Ricardo is looking forward to learning more about the practical aspects of sustainability and sharing his learnings with the Haas community.
Paul Logan
Paul Logan is a writer, storyteller, and marketing specialist currently pursuing an MBA at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. With a deep passion for the intersection of creativity and technology, he focuses on leveraging generative AI to empower new storytellers and shape innovative narratives. Paul is excited to join the board of the Center for Responsible Business, as its mission aligns with his interest in rethinking capitalism and creating responsible, impactful solutions that drive both business success and positive societal change. He looks forward to contributing to the CRB’s efforts in fostering a more sustainable and ethical business landscape.
Missy Martin
Missy is a community builder, an environmentalist, and a creative. Before starting her MBA at Haas, Missy worked in sustainability across various organizations, including serving as the Chief Sustainability Officer at a blockchain startup called Sapien, supporting business development at circular economy platform, Loop, and leading mentorship and leadership development programs at Tesla and BEACN. In addition to these roles, she worked with nonprofits on advocating for intersectional environmentalism for about a decade — from lobbying for feminine care research and equity to mentoring students on a wide-range of climate action projects. Now, Missy is incredibly excited to be joining the Center for Responsible Business as the new fellow, and is looking forward to collaborating with phenomenal peers from across Berkeley’s diverse degree programs on reimagining capitalism.
Chidera Osuji
Chidera Osuji is passionate about the nexus of circular economy systems and equity. She came to Haas to explore the vast network of sustainability, social impact, and leadership resources and is excited to push accelerated climate action within business through the CRB’s initiatives. She is a Consortium Fellow, Forté Fellow, Nonprofit Board Fellow, and Chief of Staff for the ClimateCAP conference. Prior to Haas, Chidera was an Operations Manager at an urban design and landscape architecture firm focused on climate-adaptive and resilient design. She earned her B.A. in Economics and Ethnic Studies from Yale University.
Ishita Rustagi
Ishita spent her early career developing and implementing strategic frameworks, tools, and educational resources that advanced equitable business practices. In particular, she partnered with large tech companies to move the needle on responsible innovation and ethical AI. Through her time at Haas and with the CRB community, Ishita hopes to leverage her background and find ways to ensure that technology and innovation focuses on closing gaps for marginalized communities. Outside of Haas, you can find Ishita hiking/walking around outside, climbing, or engaging in all manner of art projects!
Rakhi Sagaram
Rakhi’s journey across corporate and social impact sectors has shaped her perspective on how responsible capitalism can drive positive change and made her challenge systems perpetuating developmental disparities. The CRB community strives to bridge these gaps. She is excited to join a growing network of people with a vision for building a more equitable and sustainable world.
Juliana Sanford
The CRB was a deciding factor in Juliana’s decision to come to Haas—its mission and focus deeply resonate with the broad questions she is tackling at this stage in her education, career, and personal evolution. She joined the CRB Student Advisory Board to engage with like-minded peers and build bridges across Berkeley in this process of defining paths toward individual and collective impact within and beyond the prevailing capitalist system. At Berkeley, she is pursuing a dual degree MBA and Master of Climate Solutions, exploring food systems, decarbonization, and mechanisms for systems change. Juliana previously spent time in finance and management consulting, finding her niche in investment diligence and climate work at BCG, including an ~8 month stint with BCG’s internal strategy think tank, the Henderson Institute, researching resource scarcity and bottlenecks impeding the global energy transition.
Atiya Shah
Atiya Shah is a fourth-year undergraduate majoring in Environmental Economics and Policy at UC Berkeley. Throughout her academic and professional journey, she has gained valuable experience at the intersection of sustainability and business. As a member of BEACN, a sustainable consulting club for undergraduates, Atiya has the opportunity to sharpen her skills in tackling real-world challenges. She is also engaged in grassroots organizing for environmentally-minded students through the Student Environmental Resource Center (SERC). Her interests in sustainability and business responsibility include regenerative agriculture, environmental law and policy, circular economics, energy, and marine conservation.
Esa Tilijia
Throughout Esa’s career, she has followed a values-driven compass, transitioning from Wall Street to Strategy at REI Co-Op, and serving on the Board of the Nepal Seattle Society. Her journey has come full circle at Haas and CRB, where Esa is excited to collaborate to navigate an earth-friendly and accessible path to the summit for future generations. She aims to help foster a sense of conviction and community on campus around the notion that we can all follow our values-driven compasses contributing to business responsibly in whichever industry we choose to embark upon.
Margo Wilwerding
Margo is an environmentalist, innovator, community-builder, and creative problem-solver with a background in fashion and food sustainability. As an MBA/MCS candidate, she aims to address the urgent need to reimagine our food and consumption systems by applying principles of circularity (e.g., regenerative agriculture, new business models, innovative packaging solutions), evolving policy and governance, and reshaping consumer behavior. Margo is excited to join the CRB SAB to cultivate deeper technical expertise across the student body, accelerate feasible and scalable climate solutions, and bridge key stakeholders to drive systemic change! Margo believes that the CRB can catalyze the evolution toward a more equitable and sustainable world, and through this, she hopes to also inspire others to take action.
