The UC Berkeley Haas School of Business recently launched the Michaels Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Business, a 9-credit certificate with a focus on empowering new leaders to create the economic and social transition to a climate resilient, low-carbon, and equitable future. Certificate recipients will be equipped with the foundation and skills necessary to evaluate operational and strategic decisions using a sustainability lens.

Here at the Sustainable & Impact Finance Initiative, we are proud to support the Certificate’s focus on finance with our curriculum.

With the choice of three tracks, MBA students can pursue various interests and career paths through the Michael’s Certificate. Here at the Sustainable & Impact Finance Initiative, we are proud to support the Certificate’s focus on finance with our curriculum. Specifically, the Impact Venture Capital Track and the Sustainable Finance Track are both composed of SAIF courses such as Impact Investing Landscape, Haas Impact Fund, and the Sustainable Investment Fund.

The Haas Impact Fund is a spring semester course where student Venture Partners source early-stage impact startups in 10 impact areas such as Health, Financial Access, and Renewable Energy. At the end of the course, student Venture Partners form teams to compete in the annual Invest for Impact Pitch Competition for up to $50,000 equity investment.

The Sustainable Investment Fund is the first and largest student-run socially responsible investment fund within a leading business school. Through the course, MBA student principals gain real-world experience to delivering both strong financial returns and positive social impact. From the fund’s inception in 2008, student principals have more than doubled the initial investment to $3M+ through SRI and ESG investment strategies.

The Sustainable & Impact Finance Initiative continuously strives to address the most important sustainability issues within the business world. With support from the Berkeley Haas community, we make this possible through dynamic curriculum and MBA programs.
