The Entrepreneurship & Innovation Group* unites faculty members within Haas who share a scholarly interest in the topics of entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurship & Innovation Group faculty take a multi-disciplinary lens to study these phenomena, which are vitally important for the global economy and deeply integrated into the fabric of Berkeley Haas and the Bay Area.
Our faculty come from backgrounds in the fields of management, economics, computational social science, sociology, and the management of technology and engineering. Core themes of the group include how sociodemographic and market factors shape the formation and rate of creation of new, high potential companies; the origins of innovation and entrepreneurship in technology-focused contexts; entrepreneurial finance; the study of the creation and diffusion of scientific knowledge; open innovation; patenting; and entrepreneurship in the context of emerging economies.
Faculty in the Entrepreneurship & Innovation Group work with students at all levels (undergraduate, MBA, PhD, and executive levels) and our work runs the gamut from formal theory to empirical research that examines very large datasets to applied work with some of the executives, investors and policy makers that are animating the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems.
*We are a virtual group because all of our faculty also are members of other Haas groups, but we come together to create intellectual energy and idea-sharing around the socially and economically essential phenomena of innovation and entrepreneurship.
