Dr. Martin U Schlegel holds a PhD in Natural Science specializing in Chemical Engineering, MSc in Chemistry and engaged in Economic Studies in his Doctorate Program. Martin completed his Executive Business Education at UC Berkeley-Haas and is a Guest Lecturer in sports management, entrepreneurship and innovation.

With 25 years of international experience in the sports and recreation industry across novel materials, technology and R&D commercialisation, Martin provides consulting advice and expertise to communities, companies and stakeholders in sports technology and the business of sport in Australasia, Europe and the USA. As Board Alumni at the International Sports Technology Association (ISTA) in Atlanta (USA) and Executive Chair of the Australian Sports Technologies Network (ASTN), his work focuses on startup programs, global partnerships and export growth. He previously worked on sports infrastructure projects across Australasia, Europe and North America, including Olympic Games. Prior to his engagement in Australasia, Martin worked in positions in the USA including management positions in IT, QMS and M&A. He is corresponding co-author of the chapter ‘The Reach of Sports Technologies’ in the book ‘21st Century Sports’ and co-contributed a chapter to the book ‘Clusters of Innovation in the Age of Disruption’. He regularly speaks on topics of the future of the business of sport and the impact of technology.
