Why Participate in IBD?
The International Business Development (IBD) program offers MBA students the opportunity to work with international clients on a wide range of strategic consulting projects. IBD students get to solve real-world challenges while gaining international consulting experience and honing their leadership skills.
The IBD program offers students a unique opportunity to:
- Make an impact by solving a real-world strategic problem
- Explore and refine your leadership style
- Deepen your consulting experience
- Develop international business expertise
- Travel and spend two weeks working at your client’s international project site
IBD is an experiential learning class that satisfies the Applied Innovation course requirement at Berkeley Haas. It is held during the spring semester, and runs from January to late May.
Student Strategies for Success
Here are some of the ways that IBD students contribute to project success:
Be Flexible
Priorities may shift during a project. Be prepared to overcome the unexpected and manage ambiguity.
Be Team Oriented
Well integrated teamwork is essential to the success of the IBD experience. IBD students often speak about the close friendships made with their teammates as a highlight of the experience.
Be Open to New Experiences
Your project might be in an industry or a country that is new to you. Learning about new cultures and ways of communication are integral parts of the IBD experience. The IBD course provides a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact while working across diverse cultures, economies, and business settings.
