Haas Building Access FAQ
Q: Will building hours change?
A: Haas perimeter doors will be locked at 7 PM nightly. Haas Building hours for occupants will remain the SAME. (10 PM closing for Sun-F, 8 PM closing for Sat).
Q: Who can access Haas buildings at 7 PM?
A: Any student, faculty, or staff member with an active Cal 1 Card (“All Active UCID”) can access the Haas Faculty Building, Student Services Building, Cheit Hall, and Chou Hall.
Q: Do all entry perimeter doors have card key readers?
A: No, entry into buildings after 7 PM will be only via the perimeter doors that have Card key access. For Chou Hall and the Student Services Building, card key readers are located at most entry doors. For Faculty Building and Cheit Hall, card key readers are only at the main doors off the courtyard. See the Haas Visual Directory for entry doors with card readers (CalNet login required).
Q: Do I have to do anything to get access via my UCB Cal 1 card?
A: No, all campus community members’ UCB Cal 1 Card keys will now include access to Haas buildings from 7 PM – building close (i.e., just as anyone can walk into our buildings now). No additional programming “steps” will need to be done to any UCB Cal 1 cards; everyone will be automatically given Haas building access.
Q: What do I do if my card does not work?
A: Ensure that you are correctly presenting your type of Cal1 card during “All Active UCID” hours. If the card still does not work as expected, email [email protected] with a photo of the front and back of the card and the location of the door(s) you are unable to access. Someone will respond by email within 72 hours.
Q: What do I do if I have lost my UCB Cal 1 card?
A: Please see the UC Berkeley Cal 1 Card Information page for obtaining a new card.
Q: If I am a Haas staff or faculty member who has after hours access to Haas buildings, will my UCB Cal 1 card key still allow for that?
A: Yes, these building access hour changes will not affect individual settings. If any specific questions on after-hour access, contact Haas facilities at [email protected]
Q: How will guest event access be handled for non-UCB community members who need access after 7 PM?
A: Event Managers should create access plans based on individual needs. The vast majority of our events begin prior to 7 PM and/or have attendees only from our campus community. For events that fall outside this, communication should be provided to guests clarifying access post 7 PM and/or how to gain reentry post 7 PM. Please reach out to the Haas Events Team at [email protected] for specific questions on how best to handle your event access.
Q: Will there be signage on buildings to indicate the changes?
A: Yes, signage is being installed at all key building entry doors to indicate current access hours.
Q: Will the Haas SPOs be able to let people into buildings after 7 PM?
A: Yes, if your card is not working, our Haas SPO (510-292-7800) can be contacted for access. Entrants should have a valid UCB Cal 1 Card key to verify identification and community affiliation. As a transition grace period, SPOs will allow entry into our buildings with any valid picture ID, and will take down names and affiliation to track entries. But this will only be for a limited period, so all community members should have and carry a valid UCB Cal 1 card to enter buildings after 7 PM.
