Back to the Roots was founded by Alejandro Velez & Nikhil Arora (both BS 09) during their last semester at Haas. Inspired by the idea of producing local, fresh food from what was an urban waste stream, Back to the Roots created the Grow-at-Home Mushroom Farm. Available at over 3,000 retail locations around the country it lets anyone easily grow their own gourmet mushrooms at home in just 10 days. They recently launched the AquaFarm, a self-cleaning fish tank that grows food. A closed-loop ecosystem, this award-winning product looks great in any kitchen or classroom.
