UC Berkeley and the Bay Area are known for their leadership in the sustainable transformation of the world’s energy system. Students coming to UC Berkeley will be surrounded by groundbreaking research, engaging teaching and a vibrant network of fellow students who are passionate about energy and the environment.

The Energy Institute sponsors courses for MBAs and other graduate students who want to learn more about the fundamentals of energy and environmental markets and the commercialization of technologies to address climate change. For example, the hands-on Cleantech to Market course crosses disciplinary boundaries, putting together students from business, engineering, biosciences, law, and public policy to tackle large challenges.

Our courses for full-time and part-time students support career pathways in energy and clean technology.

Students can also join the university’s vibrant cross-campus student group, the Berkeley Energy and Resources Collaborative.

Summer School in Environmental and Energy Economics

Thanks to generous funding from the Sloan Foundation, the Energy Institute has been offering its Summer School in Energy and Environmental Economics again each summer on the Berkeley campus. The goal of the summer school is to provide doctoral students nationwide, who have completed the core first year microeconomics and econometrics requirement with an overview of the most important and current topics in various areas of the fields of environmental and energy economics. It is designed to help early career students identify promising dissertation projects. The instructors’ expertise covers a range of important topics in the field.
