Severin Borenstein Appointed to CAISO Board by Governor Newsom

severin-borensteinGovernor Gavin Newsom has appointed Severin Borenstein as a member of the California Independent System Operator (ISO) Board of Governors. Borenstein is E.T. Grether Professor of Business Administration and Public Policy at the Haas School of Business and Faculty Director of the Energy Institute at Haas, UC Berkeley.

The California ISO maintains reliability on one of the largest and most modern power grids in the world, and operates a transparent, accessible wholesale energy market.  The ISO is a nonprofit public benefit corporation operating under California law.

“I am honored that Governor Newsom has appointed me to the California ISO Board,” Borenstein said. “This is an exciting time for the ISO as the industry develops approaches to reliably integrate renewable energy. The board will have an important role facilitating opportunities for beneficial trade with the rest of the western market and continuing to support California’s climate goals.”

The California ISO’s Board of Governors is composed of five members serving three-year staggered terms, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the state senate. Selected board members have shown proven expertise in areas including the electric industry, markets and the public interest.
