Welcoming Faculty Affiliate Joseph Shapiro to the Energy Institute

August 21, 2018

We are delighted to welcome Professor Joseph Shapiro to U.C. Berkeley’s Agricultural & Resource Economics Department and as a Research Affiliate at the Energy Institute. We have been fortunate to have Joe participate in Energy Institute research events dating back to his graduate student days. We welcome him now to the U.C. Berkeley faculty with great enthusiasm as a colleague and friend.

Joe’s work is ambitious, rigorous and objective, focusing on some of the most critical energy and environmental issues of our time. In the five years since he received his PhD in economics from MIT, he has developed an extraordinarily broad research portfolio, including major research contributions on the impact of the Clean Water Act, the relationship between international trade and pollution emissions, and the effect of extreme temperatures on mortality as individuals adapt to climate change.
