What is IDDEAS?
IDDEAS@Berkeley is a free two-day immersion program designed to introduce promising undergraduate students to doctoral studies and business research. The goal of this program is to support and encourage student and faculty diversity in business schools.
Participants will:
- Get a 360 view of doctoral-level business research.
- Take a master class from a world-renowned Berkeley Haas professor.
- Discuss academic careers in research and teaching.
- Experience what life as a PhD student is like.
- Gain advice about graduate school opportunities.
- Feel prepared for a successful application process for doctoral education.
- Have reasonable expenses for travel and lodging provided by Berkeley Haas (Note: Travel is subject to applicable policies).
Applicants
Because of its strong belief in the value of diversity (broadly defined), Berkeley Haas seeks to reach the best and the brightest undergraduate students from varied backgrounds and experiences who bring new perspectives and encourage innovative thought in academic business research. All interested applicants should apply.
Ideal applicants should:
- Be current college sophomores, juniors, or seniors with strong quantitative skills and academic records (Note: Academic background in business is not required).
- Be interested in exploring, investigating, researching, studying, and examining relevant economic and related social issues.
- Be considering a career as a college business professor and/or academic researcher.
- Be able to provide a strong academic recommendation from an advisor or faculty member knowledgeable about their experience or interest in research and/or teaching (Note: Extensive research experience is not a requirement).
- Not have attended a previous IDDEAS program.
To Apply
Applicants will need:
- Academic transcript(s) from all institutions attended.
- An academic letter of recommendation from an advisor or faculty member knowledgeable about their experience or interest in research and teaching.
- Two 1-page essays.
- A completed online IDDEAS application. Please follow the instructions below.
