The Center for Equity, Gender, and Leadership educates Equity Fluent® Leaders at Berkeley Haas. We educate over 1000 leaders a year, and are proud to be a catalyst for them to ignite and accelerate change. Below is a selection of classes we offer in our degree programs and Executive Education.

Undergraduate Program
This experiential course will give you the tools to have a productive DEI conversations in the workplace. You will (1) learn guidelines for speaking about identity-related topics; (2) gain an understanding of how identities shape how we show up in the workplace; (3) empathize with the experiences of your peers; (4) practice role-playing real-world workplace discussions.
This course prepares students to explore and develop Equity Fluent Leadership strategies based on their social identities, core values, and purpose; to be intentional about designing their personal brand; and to design and express their personal brand and leadership stories. The course is designed to empower Cal student athletes to build their personal brands in a values-based, equity-fluent manner as they enter sponsorship agreements and partnerships now that they can benefit from their Name, Image and Likeness. However, these leadership strategies are critically powerful for everyone whose intention is to be a leader and make a positive impact in our world, and any UC Berkeley student is welcomed.
As the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) grow, so to do their implications for business and society. This course is for aspiring leaders to understand and implement strategies for equitable and responsible AI innovation and management. It combines lectures, case discussion, project work, and guest speakers who are leading responsible AI in industry and academia. At the end of this course you will be able to: (1) Understand risks of AI to society and business, as well as articulate the business case for responsibility; (2) Interrogate challenges and solutions to operationalizing AI responsibly in organizations; (3) Develop and implement strategies for responsible and equitable AI innovation and management.
DEI for Global Leaders equips students with the skills to be equitable leaders in the workplace through the instruction of DEI terminology, corporate case studies, and tools that will enable engagement in open dialogue. The course is a progression of four modules based on the defining leadership principles of Haas: Student Always, Confidence Without Attitude, Beyond Yourself, and Questioning the Status Quo. Each module will explore DEI concepts in the context of these basic principles, and engage students in self-reflection through 4 projects that align with each principle.
Full-Time MBA Program
Fluency in diversity, equity, and inclusion is an important component of being an effective business leader. Equity Fluent Leaders understand the value of different lived experiences and use their power to address barriers, increase access, and drive change for positive impact. An academic emphasis in Equity Fluent Leadership:
- Equips you with the framework and skills to develop and manage diverse teams
- Prepares you to be a driver of equitable and inclusive culture
- Builds your understanding of the value of different lived experiences and the impact of systems of power on historically marginalized communities
Courses, experiential learning opportunities, fellowships, speakers, and programs in this area are supported by a number of student-run initiatives, faculty, and academic centers at Berkeley Haas. Evening & Weekend MBA Program
In an increasingly diverse and contentious world, leaders require the awareness, skillfulness, and capacity to navigate complex, layered and dynamic identities in the workplace in order to lead teams and organizations effectively. This course focuses on connection, effective communication, accountability, and self-reflection to develop inclusive leadership competencies; and encourages vulnerability, exploration, and learning from mistakes. The goal of this course is to identify key inclusive leadership competencies and provide opportunities to practice and develop them during class and in real-world situations. Students will strengthen their ability to have difficult conversations with compassion and build authentic relationships.
Growing scientific consensus has emerged to understand why women’s and men’s career paths continue to diverge in the modern workplace in both predictable and surprising ways. This module will examine the state of gender equality, identify the unique approaches that women use to solve pressing social problems, and equip women with the leadership tools needed to achieve their highest potential.
MBA for Executives Program
