Your journey as a Berkeley undergraduate begins alongside other incoming Spieker Undergraduate Business Program first year students. While on campus, you will explore campus resources and connect with your peers in the first of three GMP cohort classes, setting the stage for the next four years at Cal.
After your first year, once summer ends, you and your cohort will travel to an exciting Fall semester abroad in Accra, Ghana. You will study at the University of Ghana with local students, immersing yourself in a cultural and academic environment. Engage in coursework that includes business electives, cultural studies, and exclusive visits to local businesses, deepening your understanding of how culture and business intersect on a global scale. The local international center will be there for your academic support and cultural integration while abroad.
When you return to UC Berkeley for the Spring semester, you will start your second cohort class experience with your GMP peers. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to take a mix of classes at the Haas School of Business and across UC Berkeley, further expanding your international studies, enhancing your quantitative skills, and developing your leadership capabilities. Learn more about the Business Administration curriculum in the Berkeley Academic Guide (opens in a new tab).

Sophomore Year
GMP students will choose from hundreds of courses for their fall term abroad. Explore courses that satisfy some of your breadth, elective, and global management concentration degree requirements. Everyone will begin with a UC course on Ghanaian Society and Culture (opens in a new tab), diving into the country’s history, people, and language as well as broader topics on governance and the emerging economy. During the semester, students can opt into fieldwork, research, or community engagement work for academic credit in addition to their courses.
The UCEAP Ghana study center offers a beginning Twi (Akan) language course. The University of Ghana offers courses in Swahili from beginning to advanced levels. Additional languages are also available at the University of Ghana but there is no language requirement for the GMP. Here is a link to some course options and academic expectations (opens in a new tab) while abroad.
