Do you want to gain hands-on investment experience as a sustainable investment fund manager? Please apply to join the fund-as-curriculum course as an MBAs Student Principal.
The Haas Sustainable Investment Fund (SIF) is the first and largest student-led sustainable investment fund within a leading business school. It offers Berkeley graduate students real-world experience in delivering both strong financial returns and social and environmental impact. Since 2008, the student Principals have more than doubled the initial investment to the current portfolio size of over $4 million, learning through experience about sustainable investment strategies and practices. As a student managed fund, the Principals play a central role each year in setting investment policy and making asset allocation and security selection decisions.
SIF is an application based course that you cannot enroll in yourself through bidding. SIF (MBA 292J/EW292J) is a year long commitment, with Financial Information Analysis as a prerequisite course that must be completed in the prior year. It is an Applied Innovation course. Students are not required to have previous professional experience in finance or sustainability to participate, just a willingness to learn and completion of the prerequisites.
The course will meet Thursdays from 4-6pm. It is a 2 unit course. Students that are accepted to take the course next year will be asked to join the final SIF report from this year’s cohort on April 26th, 2024.

- Prerequisite: Financial Information Analysis
- Application Due: Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 11:59 PM (late applications will be accepted from anyone who attends the info sessions on April 16th)
- Notification: Monday, April 15th, 2024
- Final 2023/2024 SIF Report: Friday, April 26th, 2024 from 9am-11am
- First Class: Thursday, August 29th, 2024
