Each ASE candidate will fit into one of the categories below. If you have trouble determining which is the best fit for you, please contact the ASE administrator.

  • A New Hire has never been employed at UC Berkeley or any other UC campus.
  • Rehires are employees who have been employed by UC Berkeley or another UC campus but have a break in service of more than 120 days between appointments.
  • A Continuing Employee has not had a break in service of more than 120 days between appointments.

Berkeley Regional Services (BRS) now processes all HR hiring paperwork. Individuals that are appointed under any ASE job title, will be contacted by BRS to schedule an in-person onboarding session, if any HR paperwork is required in order to process an ASE appointment.

COVID-19 Update: Due to the shelter-in-place orders because of Covid-19, any new employee or rehire employee will have a virtual onboarding session scheduled with Berkeley Regional Services, in order to process any required HR paperwork.
