Haas Research Affiliates Classifications
The following guide was assembled to help Haas users identify the resources which may be available for various research affiliates. These are resources from Haas departments: Human Resources, Facilities, Event Management and Technology Solutions (information technology).
Classifications
DESCRIPTION: Hired by faculty to –

FUNDING SOURCES: Faculty research stipends, grants, and/or Centers & Institute funding. |
APPOINTMENT TYPE: Staff appointment – Hired as an RDA2 (Research Data Analyst 2, 3, or 4) or sometimes as a PPA3 (staff role) or Contract -either as LTE (limited term at 900 hours) or yearly contract (up to 4 years at any % FTE). |

DESCRIPTION: Hired by faculty to support their research. Must have a PhD conferred within the last five years and must never have lost a faculty appointment. |
FUNDING SOURCES: Faculty research stipends, grants, and/or Centers & Institute funding. |
APPOINTMENT TYPE: Initial postdoc appointments are full-time positions that typically last between one to two years, up to a maximum re-appointment of five years with a rare exception of a sixth year.

HOW TO INITIATE HIRING: Faculty hiring manager initiates the request with ProS Region(opens in a new tab)by submitting an HR Service Hub ticket(opens in a new tab). Haas Academic HR (Rosemary Alonso) acts as a liaison with ProS staff for recruitment. |

DESCRIPTION: A visiting scholar appointment allows individuals with a PhD (or the terminal degree in their field) earned more than five years ago, the chance to participate in short-term educational or research projects under the supervision of a UC Berkeley faculty member. |
